The Impact Bond Innovation Fund, launched in South Africa in 2018, is the first Social Impact Bond for early childhood development in the Global South. As technical auditor, Development Works Changemakers (DWC) has met its brief effectively, providing pertinent, efficient, cost-effective and timely services. In the context of a complex, challenging project, the DWC team is always professional, flexible and sensitive to changing needs and we are delighted to have DWC as our service provider.

DWC were commissioned to evaluate the design and assumptions of a program that trained school learners in IT skills, specifically the Oracle / Java programming skill. These can be conceptual-type studies & require exceptional client engagement roles; which DWC delivered to a very high standard. Overall, through how DWC conducted the evaluation (process and product), our client was very pleased with their level of knowledge of this discipline, engaging of clients and the transfer of knowledge to all those involved in the program! Would recommend them!

The professionalism and uncompromising work ethic of Fia and the DWC team continues to inspire us with every new project. By working with DWC, our whole team is able to grasp the critical concepts related to monitoring our work, which is now a meaningful process that contributes towards our strategic goals. We have worked with this competent team to develop a comprehensive and quality monitoring system, relevant to our needs as one of the largest educational impact organisations in South Africa. We continue to work with them on continuously improving our capabilities around reporting.

Having worked with the team I am happy to say that when asking the evaluation question, they asked pertinent questions allowing us refine the evaluation question and allowing for understanding of all stakeholders. The team works round the clock are always available and get back to you promptly and are always asking questions and giving guidance so that the customer can get the best product. They render superb work and reports that are easy to understand.

Lindy and the team at Development Works Changemakers were enormously helpful in helping us raise funds for our projects and connect to key individuals and organisations. They were friendly and approachable, and instantly ‘got’ what we were trying to do. They helped us organise a fundraiser and make key industry connections at very short notice and were amazingly supportive throughout the process. It was both reassuring and effective having them as partners in our fundraising efforts and networking.

Digital Frontiers Institute is a non-profit funded by a number of high-profile donors including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with a core focus on capacity building in developing countries in the digital finance industry. DFI appointed Development Works Changemakers in September 2018 to assist with a rapid assessment of the impact of DFI’s training courses. The project had tight timelines and involved significant preparation and international travel. DWC, represented by Susannah and Jenna, stepped up tremendously to this task and were instrumental in ensuring that the project was delivered on time and to a high standard. Professionally DWC were fantastic to work with, and DFI looks forward to continuing their working partnership.

Development Works Changemakers were contracted to perform a Rapid Assessment on the 2018 Green Building Council South Africa SMME Support and Development Programme. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with the DWC team. They are highly professional and went the extra mile to understand our programme and our requirements. We really valued their professional expertise and guidance.

The British Council South Africa has been working with Development Works Changemakers on the Premier Skills’ International Enterprise Programme, in partnership with the Premier League and Sports Relief. With DWC’s great work ethic, we have been able to successfully launch an enterprise programme with a variety of community development projects, where DWC is carrying out the M&E of this new scope of work. It has been a great pleasure working with them in defining the programme’s outcomes and the overall progress thus far.

It was a great experience to work with Development Works Changemakers. They pulled together a knowledgeable and passionate team of researchers, analysts and fieldworkers, which resulted in an excellent body of work that can be applied both strategically and operationally. It is always great to work with a team that are flexible to a dynamic work environment, but most notably I would like to acknowledge and thank the team for their thoughtfulness and care in working with us, particularly in going the extra mile with the final data analysis which made hugely helpful recommendations for us to take forward.

Bridget HannahDeputy Director | After School Programme Office | Western Cape Government

There were so many really great findings that we have shared both internally and externally. And it has been really useful for our internal learning and what we may do differently in the future.

Development Works Changemakers was selected from a competitive pool of applicants. One of the aspects of their proposal which stood out was their focus on applying an inclusivity lens to their approach as well as their demonstrated understanding of the leadership field and more specifically their knowledge and experience with leadership in the African context, in addition to the participatory methodology proposed. Once the evaluation got underway, the timeline proposed was adhered to, despite some difficulties with timely responses from key informants. Development Works Changemakers sifted through an enormous amount of program document data, collected and analyzed information from program participants and stakeholders, and worked collaboratively with us to surface the most useful data points and findings to highlight program impact and challenges. Their research was insightful and grounded where possible with relevant outside data sources that triangulated findings or demonstrated the nuances they found were unique to our circumstances. The finished report highlighted the most important findings for our research questions and provided as much detail as could be extrapolated from the data available, particularly blending the quantitative and qualitative data findings into a cohesive narrative. Development Works Changemakers were professional, insightful, thorough, and responsive to feedback and I would highly recommend them for a range of evaluation and assessment work.

Cheryl SchoenbergDeputy Director | Leadership Practice IREX, and Former Chief of Party for the Mandela Washington Fellowship

The DWC were extremely profession and very efficient. All milestones were delivered on time and the objective review of our M&E systems was highly appreciated, results of which have been used to make improvements to our systems and processes.
